INTERNAL MEDICINE TEAM

CTVSH has been established to provide in depth diagnostics and treatment for your pet.

Our Professional Internal Medicine Team

This department is staffed by Dr. Sharon Theisen and Dr. Lori Locke-Bohannon. Both Dr. Theisen and Dr. Locke Bohannon graduated from Texas A & M University Veterinary College. Dr. Theisen went on to complete a small animal internship at Louisiana State College of Veterinary Medicine. Following this, she completed a residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at the Ohio State University. Dr. Locke-Bohannon completed her small animal internship at Auburn University's Small Animal Hospital. She then went on to complete a Residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at Louisiana State College of Veterinary Medicine. A Residency in small animal internal medicine includes extensive training in all aspects of internal medicine including gastroenterology, cardiology, oncology, neurology, nephrology along with radiology and ultrasonography. Dr. Theisen became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 1995 and Dr. Locke became a Diplomate in 2002. This was accomplished by passing an in-depth certifying exam given by this organization.

Internal Medicine Services

The Internal Medicine Department is able to address abnormalities with the gastrointestinal, urinary, cardiac, respiratory, hematologic (blood), endocrine and neurologic systems. Internists can help diagnose and treat patients with difficult or multiple problems. The department is equipped with X-Ray, ultrasound (sonogram), video-endoscopy, bronchoscopy, rhinoscopy, colonoscopy, blood pressure measurement, and ECG capabilities. The safest anesthetics and continuous monitoring are used if sedation or anesthesia is required for diagnosis or treatment of your pet.

What You can Expect

Ultrasound exams are usually performed during the initial exam period. After the exam, the results will be discussed with you and further diagnostics or treatment requirements will be presented. Unfortunately, due to OSHA regulations, you will not be able to be with your pet during the procedure. We hope that you understand that this policy is in place for your safety.

Endoscopic exams are usually scheduled for the following day to allow for preparation of the GI tract. If it is an emergency, your veterinarian will contact us and arrangements will be made to perform the procedure the same day as your appointment.
