Penny is a 14 month old 48 pound female spayed Golden Doodle. She was presented to CTVSEH for a suspected ectopic ureter.  She had been dribbling urine constantly since she was adopted at 6 weeks of age.

Penny was taken to surgery and a single extramural ectopic right ureter found. The ureter was dilated at 1 cm and traversed into the pelvic canal adjacent to the urethra (see picture...a 10 French red rubber catheter is in the urethra and the hemostat is elevating the right ureter with the q-tip pointing to the ureter as is enters the pelvic canal). This ureter was ligated at the level of the pubic bone and transplanted into the bladder at the normal anatomical location. Penny was fully continent the day after surgery. Extramural ectopic ureters are rare in female dogs. The more commonly encountered intramural ectopic ureter requires dissection of the ureteral trough from the urethra and prognosis for regaining continence is guarded.
