Mia is a 9.5 year old FS DSH with a 1 year history of losing weight. She became PU/PD and was diagnosed with renal failure by her primary care veterinarian (BUN 186, creatinine 10). An abdominal ultrasound was performed and revealed bilateral hydronephrosis (renal pelvis measured 4.5 cm by 3 cm bilaterally) secondary to ureteroliths. Mia was taken to surgery and bilateral subcutaneous ureteral bypass (SUB) catheters placed. The following morning the renal pelvis measured 0.4 cm bilaterally. Mia was maintained on IV fluids and the BUN and creatinine had dropped to 62 and 4.3 respectively at the time of discharge.
