Canine Flu

Canine Flu

Hi, I'm Doctor Jeff Poulsen with Central Texas Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Hospital.

Humans are in the middle of flu season, but our pups are at risk of getting sick too. Canine influenza is a respiratory disease similar to the virus people can get and just like us, there are ways you can prevent the dog flu too.

The best way to prevent it is to keep your dog away from many public places or kennels with reported cases. If you come into contact with a dog you think was exposed to the flu, make sure to wash your hands and clothes before touching other pets. Dog flu symptoms include coughing, sneezing, nasal discharge, runny eyes, and lethargic.

When serious illnesses do happen, CTVSEH is there for you. Their specialists and doctors offer a range of in-depth surgical procedures, testing equipment and diagnostic capabilities.
